Bloody Day Of Violence In Iraq Kills Dozens

A series of roadside bombings, exploding cars and gun battles have killed at least 82 people across Iraq in the country's bloodiest day this year.

Iraqi police said gunmen have killed 13 soldiers on an army base in the country's northeast.

Two senior police officials said the gunmen arrived at dawn Monday at the military base in the town of Udaim in three vehicles before opening fire on soldiers.

The attack was one in a wave of violence across the country that left 82 dead.

Earlier, a series of roadside bombs and exploding cars in northeastern Iraq killed 11 people.

The blasts came within hours of explosions in Baghdad and northern Iraq that together left another 58 people dead.

Monday's death toll marks the single bloodiest day so far in Iraq this year.

It was the single deadliest day in Iraq since the US military left last December.

The attacks come only days after the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq warned that the militant group is regrouping.
