A woman has been charged in connection with the death of her two-year-old son.
Rio Smedley died of severe abdominal injuries after paramedics treated him for cardiac arrest.
His mother, Kirsty Smedley, 23, is accused of allowing or causing the boy's death.
Police were called to a house in Cheriton Drive, Breightmet, Bolton, in the early hours of April 22 following reports the youngster had gone into cardiac arrest.
The child was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where he died.
Smedley appeared at Bolton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and will attend Manchester Crown Court on Thursday.
A 23-year-old man has already been charged with the boy's murder.
